Why Prague customers cannot find you on Google Maps — and what you can fix tonight

Local SEO · August 19, 2026 · 7 min read

Someone searching for "autoservis Praha 4" or "hairdresser Vinohrady" does not scroll. They look at the map, see three businesses in the pack and pick one of them. Everything below that does not exist for them.

The good news: getting into that three has nothing to do with budget and everything to do with tidiness. Below is the order we work through local visibility — and the order you can audit yourself.

One thing about the Czech market first

In Czechia, Google alone is not enough. According to Statcounter, in July 2026 Google held 81.07% of searches and Seznam held 14.05%. Roughly one customer in seven never sees what you did on Google unless your business is also on Firmy.cz and Mapy.cz.

International local-SEO guides skip this part entirely. In Prague it is the difference between "we are visible" and "we are visible to most people".

1. The profile is half filled in

The most common cause. The Google Business Profile exists, but it has one category, no services, no description and three photos from opening day. Google has nothing to show against the query, so it shows nothing.

The fix: make the primary category the narrowest one that fits, then add secondary ones. List services as separate items, not one paragraph. Opening hours including public holidays. At least fifteen photos, taken at different times of day.

2. The category was chosen "broader, to cover more"

It works the other way round. A broad category places you next to hundreds of businesses in Prague; a narrow one puts you on a short list where you are visible. "Car service" competes with the whole city. "Gearbox repair" competes with five companies.

3. Few reviews, and none of them recent

Twenty reviews from two years ago are worth less than eight from the past month. Freshness signals that the business is alive.

The fix: a system, not a one-off mailing. The request belongs at the moment the customer is happy — at handover, at closing. Keep the link short so it opens the form directly. And reply to every review: the good ones, and the bad ones especially.

Note that reviews on Firmy.cz are a separate world. A company with five stars on Google and not a single review on Firmy.cz looks unknown to a Seznam user.

4. Your details differ from place to place

This is called NAP — name, address, phone. If the website shows one number, the profile another and a directory a third address with an old postcode, the search engine cannot tell whether this is one business or three, and it plays safe by ranking none of them.

The fix: unify name, address and phone everywhere down to abbreviations, spacing in the number and the choice between "Praha 4", "Praha 11" and "Háje". In Prague this goes wrong more often than anywhere else, because one address carries an administrative district, a municipal district and a neighbourhood name.

5. You are missing from Czech directories

Firmy.cz and Mapy.cz give you two things at once: their own traffic from Seznam, and independent confirmation of your business details. Industry directories come next — and in regulated fields, professional chambers too.

6. The website has no pages for districts

If you serve three parts of Prague and your website has a single "Services" page, you compete for one generic query instead of three specific ones. Location pages are not copies with the district name swapped, but pages with a real difference: how to reach you, what you do specifically here, reviews from local customers.

A practical note for Prague: people search by neighbourhood names, not district numbers. "Hairdresser Vinohrady" carries different demand from "hairdresser Praha 2", even though it is the same place.

7. The website has no structured data

LocalBusiness markup is how you tell a search engine outright: here is the address, the opening hours, the phone number and the rating. Without it, the engine guesses — and sometimes it guesses wrong.

The order to work through

Exactly top to bottom — from profile to website, not the other way round. The profile pays off in weeks; the website in months.

From practice: for a car service near Prague we spent a month rebuilding the profile around a specific offer, set up a review-collection system, created listings on Firmy.cz and Mapy.cz, unified the NAP and added structured data. The first customers from maps arrived that same month — and the rating became the best in its niche in that town.

Today's check: open maps in a private window, type what your customer would type, and see who sits in the top three. If it is not you, work through the seven points from the top. The first four take an evening and cost nothing.
